Lab-grown diamonds are no longer a niche choice—they’ve become the new norm for many couples. According to a survey of U.S. consumers by The Knot, more than half of respondents in 2024 said their engagement rings featured a lab-grown diamond center stone, a jump from 46% in 2023 and just 12% in 2019. Industry insiders echo this shift. “In 2024, 52% of all engaged couples chose a lab-grown diamond engagement ring, which was a 6% increase from 2023,” explains Akshie Jhaveri, founder of Grown Brilliance. “In 2025, we can assume this trend will continue, with as many as 60% of couples opting for lab-grown diamonds over mined diamonds.”
And the appeal goes well beyond engagements. As Bhumi Khimavat, founder and creative director of Miraki Jewels, points out, customers also choose lab-grown diamonds to mark anniversaries, celebrate milestones, or simply indulge in acts of self-love.
They’re real diamonds. The Federal Trade Commission ruled in 2020 that lab-grown diamonds are not “synthetic.” Chemically and structurally, they are identical to mined stones, and to the naked eye, indistinguishable. As Nadya Okamoto, a 27-year-old entrepreneur with 5 million online followers, shared after comparing a $140,000 mined diamond with a $20,000 lab-grown version: “If you showed me a natural versus a lab, I couldn’t tell you the difference.”
They’re dramatically more affordable. A 3-carat natural diamond with top cut, color, and clarity can cost upward of $60,000, while a comparable lab-grown diamond is closer to $3,000. For many younger shoppers navigating today’s economy, the math is simple. They don’t want to break the bank and pay three months of their salary on just one engagement ring, as De Beers have advertised for years.
They align with values. Younger generations are outspoken about sustainability and ethics. Unlike mined diamonds, lab-grown options avoid environmental damage and human rights concerns. Many are even produced using renewable energy, such as the 400 m²solar-powered facility in Shanwei, China where Mercery grows its stones.
For a generation that values transparency, sustainability, and individuality, lab-grown diamonds are not a compromise—they’re the smarter, more responsible choice.
As demand for lab-grown diamonds grows, so does the need for suppliers who deliver more than just stones. Mercery sets itself apart by offering a complete, value-driven partnership.
Mercery manages every step of production—from diamond growth to cutting, polishing, and final design. This end-to-end control ensures consistent quality, reduces costs by cutting out middlemen, and speeds up delivery times.
Our collections are designed for effortless stacking and layering, encouraging upselling and giving customers reasons to return. To support retailers, we provide ready-to-use photography for e-commerce and social media, along with custom design support to adapt bestsellers or create exclusive pieces tailored to each brand’s identity.
Because we oversee the entire process, we can offer diamonds in unique cuts, shapes, and colors, with full certification and traceability. This flexibility allows brands to deliver collections that stand out and resonate deeply with their audiences.
We embrace advanced techniques that redefine jewelry design. Our laser drilling treatment creates floating diamond effects at a fraction of traditional costs, while invisible settings highlight fancy shapes and colored stones with minimal obstruction. The result is jewelry that feels modern, fresh, and distinctly high-end.
At Mercery, sustainability isn’t an afterthought—it’s built into our operations. Our solar-powered facility generates over 100,000 kWh of renewable energy annually, cutting more than 100 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. By integrating clean energy, we ensure our diamonds aren’t just dazzling—they’re responsibly made.
Mercery offers the complete package — exceptional design, unmatched flexibility, and innovative craftsmanship. Beyond that, we provide professional jewelry display solutions to help your retail presentation stand out.
With Mercery, you’re not just sourcing lab-grown diamonds — you’re partnering with a team dedicated to helping your brand shine brighter in a competitive market.
